G-VGOA Virgin Atlantic Airways Airbus A340-642Information about the Airbus A340-642 Airbus Industrie began as a consortium of European aviation firms in 1967 when British, French and German governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the first Airbus airliner the Airbus A300. Today Airbus and Boeing dominate the Worlds airliner production, the largest airliner in production for many decades has been the "Jumbo" Boeing 747 series but now the new Airbus A380, due to enter service in 2007 is even bigger and is already referred to as the "Superjumbo". The Airbus A340 is powered by four engines and is a twin aisle aircraft seating 261-440 passengers. The Airbus A340 first flew on the 25th October 1991 and is the longest airliner currently in commercial service. Information about Virgin Atlantic Airways Richard Branson formed Virgin Atlantic Airways in 1984, Virgin Atlantic runs long haul fights out of the UK's Heathrow,Gatwick and Manchester airports to select Worldwide destinations.
