Boeing on 15th of July 1916, as “Pacific Aero Products Co.” and was re-named the “Boeing Airplane Company” on the 9th of May 1917. Today Boeing has become the Worlds largest manufacturer of airliners with only Airbus as significant or major competitor. The Boeing 747 or "Jumbo Jet" first entered service in 1970 as the 747-100 series, the 747 series remained the largest airliners flying and in production for thirty seven years until the advent of the Airbus A380 in 2007. The Boeing 747-400 series origonaly entered service in February 1989, a freighter version four years later, it is the only 747 series still in production although Boeing intends to introduce a new stretched version, the "747-8 Intercontinental". Information about Virgin Atlantic Airways Virgin Atlantic Airways was founded by Richard Branson in 1984, Virgin Atlantic runs long haul fights from London's Heathrow and Gatwick airport's and Manchester airport to Worldwide destinations.
