The Boeing 737-400 series is powered by twin CFM56-3 turbofan engines and is a stretched 737-300 series airliner, the Boeing 737-400 series first entering service in 1988.

Russian based Transaero Airlines operates out of Moscow, it was incorporated in December 1990 becoming the first airline allowed to compete internally with the Russian state owned national airline Aeroflot. Transaero Airlines is currently operating a mixed Boeing and Tupolev airliner fleet.
