G-AOVT Monarch Bristol Britannia 312Information about the Bristol Monarch Britannia 312 The Bristol Aeroplane Company was originally formed as the British and Colonial Aeroplane Company, they were merged with other British Aircraft Manufacturers in 1960 under government pressure to form BAC. The Bristol Britannia first flew on the 16th of August 1952, it was an impressive aircraft powered by four 4,440 hp Bristol Proteus 765 gas-turbine engines. A total of nineteen 312 series airliners were built, all ordered by BOAC, but after the merger of BOAC and BEA into BA most Bristol Britannia 312's were acquired by Monarch Airlines. Information about Monarch Airlines Monarch Airlines is a medium sized Swiss owned airline based in the UK, it was formed in 1967 by Mr. Bill Hodgson and Mr. Don Peacock with Swiss financial backing.
