Information about Lufthansa Airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG was initially formed in 1926 as Deutsche Luft Hansa Aktiengesellschaft following the merger of "Junkers Luftverkehr" and "Deutsche Aero Lloyd". By the outbreak of WW11 in 1939 Lufthansa had become one of the world's largest airlines. During WW11 services were seriously curtailed and ceased from 1945 to 1953 following Germany's defeat. Today Lufthansa, following the merger with the Swiss airline SWISS in October 2005, is a major international airline Lufthansa currently operates a mixed fleet of Boeing and Airbus airliners and has ordered 15 of the new Airbus A380 "Superjumbo" airliners.
