Boeing on 15th of July 1916, as “Pacific Aero Products Co.” and was re-named the “Boeing Airplane Company” on the 9th of May 1917. Today Boeing has become the Worlds largest manufacturer of airliners with only Airbus as significant or major competitor. The Boeing 747 or "Jumbo Jet" first entered service in 1970 as the 747-100 series, the 747 series remained the largest airliners flying and in production for thirty seven years until the advent of the Airbus A380 in 2007. The Boeing 747-100 series, as depicted above, are the oldest Jumbo Jets still flying, they are over 25 years old. Information about Iran Air Iran Air was formed in 1962 and operates a mixed fleet of Airbus, Boeing and Fokker airliners. It is of note that EP-IBU an Iran Air Airbus A300B2, was controversially shot down in error on the 3rd July 1988 over the Persian Gulf by the USS Vincennes (CG-49), a Ticonderoga class cruiser armed with a Aegis Combat System, the resulting in 290 civilian deaths.
