Boeing 767 was launched in 1978 primarily as a replacement for the successful but aging Boeing 707, it's almost a wide-body jet variant of the Boeing 757 airliner which was introduced about the same time. The Boeing 767-300/ER series are a lengthened 200 series 767 airliner combined with an "extended-range" of 11,305 km, they were first introduced into service during 1988. In 1939 the British government decided to nationalise Imperial Airways and British Airways and named the resultant company British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). In 1972 BOAC and BEA were combined to create BA, the UK national airline. During 1987 British Airways was privatised by the UK government. In 1988 BA absorbed British Caledonian, in 1992 it absorbed Dan-Air making, it was then the second largest airline in Europe. BA operates a mixed fleet of mainly Airbus and Boeing aircraft.
