Boeing on 15th of July 1916, as “Pacific Aero Products Co.” and was re-named the “Boeing Airplane Company” on the 9th of May 1917. The 747 Jumbo Jet first entered service during 1970 as the 747-100 series, the Jumbo series remained the largest airliners flying and in production for thirty seven years until the advent of the Airbus A380 in 2007. The Boeing 747-400 series entered service in February 1989, a freighter version four years later, it is the only 747 series still in production although Boeing will introduce a new stretched version of their 747 Jumbo jet, the even larger "747-8 Intercontinental". Information about British Airways - BA British Airways was Founded as Imperial Airways in 1924 following the merger of Instone, Handley Page, Daimler Airways and British Air Marine Navigation. In 1939 the British government nationalised Imperial Airways and British Airways and named the resultant company British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). In 1972 BOAC and BEA were combined to create British Airways, the UK's national airline, in 1987 British Airways was privatised. In 1988 BA acquired British Caledonian, and in 1992 acquired Dan-Air making it the second largest airline in Europe. BA operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing airliners.
