Boeing has become the Worlds largest manufacturer of airliners with only Airbus as significant or major competitor. The massive Boeing 747 or "Jumbo Jet" first entered service in 1970 as the 747-100 series, the 747 series remained the largest airliners flying and in production for thirty seven years until the advent of Airbuses new A380 in 2007. The Boeing 747-400 series entered service in February 1989, a freighter version four years later, it is the only 747 series of the jumbo jet still in production although Boeing intends to introduce a new stretched version of their Jumbo jet, the "747-8 Intercontinental".

Information about British Airways - BA

British Airways was Founded as Imperial Airways in 1924 following the merger of Instone, Handley Page, Daimler Airways and British Air Marine Navigation. In 1939 the British government nationalised Imperial Airways and British Airways and named the resultant company British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). In 1972 BOAC and BEA were combined to create British Airways, the UK's national airline, in 1987 British Airways was privatised. In 1988 BA acquired British Caledonian, and in 1992 acquired Dan-Air making it the second largest airline in Europe. BA operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing airliners.
