Airbus Industrie is a European consortium of  aviation companies formed in 1967 as a result of the British, French and German governments signing a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a European airliner, the Airbus A300. Airbus and Boeing now dominate the Worlds airliner production, the largest passenger airliner in production for many decades was the enormous "Jumbojet", the Boeing 747 series airliners, but the new Airbus Industrie's A380 airliner, due to enter scheduled service in 2007, is even greater in size and is being called the "Super-jumbo".

The Airbus A320 airliner is a twin engined, single aisle aircraft normally seating 180 passengers, the aircraft first took to the air on the 22nd February 1987 and has proven to be an outstanding commercial success for it's manufacturer Airbus Industrie.

Founded in 1938 as Air Schools Ltd, in 1964 it changed it's name to British Midland Airways (BMA), in February 2001 British Midland Airways joined the Star Alliance and re-named it's self bmi british midland following the 30% acquisition of British Midland Airways by Lufthansa. BMI's operates a large mixed fleet of Airbus, Boeing and Embraer commercial airliners.
