Airbus Industrie is a European consortium of  aviation companies created during 1967 as a result of the British, French and German governments signing a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a all new European airliner, the Airbus A300. Airbus Industrie and Boeing now dominate the Worlds airliner production, The largest passenger airliner in production for many decades was the enormous "Jumbojet", the Boeing 747 series airliners, but the new Airbus Industrie's A380 airliner, due to enter service in 2007, is even greater in size and is being called the "Super-jumbo".

The Airbus A320 airliner is a twin engined, single aisle aircraft normally seating 180 passengers, the aircraft first took to the air on the 22nd February 1987 and is an outstanding commercial success for it's manufacturer, Airbus Industrie.

Founded in mid 1938 as Air Schools Ltd in the UK, in 1964 to British Midland Airways (BMA), in February 2001 British Midland Airways joined the Star Alliance and re-named it's self bmi british midland following the 30% acquisition of British Midland Airways by Lufthansa. BMI now operates a large mixed fleet of Airbus, Boeing and Embraer commercial airliners.
