G-MIDC BMI British Midland Airbus A321-231Information about the Airbus A321-231 Airbus Industrie was initially formed as a European consortium of companies in 1967 as a result of the British, French and German governments signing a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a totally European airliner to compete with American aircraft manufactures airliners. Airbus Industrie is now second only to Boeing in airliner production numbers. The largest passenger airliner in production for many decades was the gigantic "Jumbo-Jet", the Boeing 747 series of airliners, but the all new Airbus Industrie A380, due to commence service in 2007, is even greater in size and is already being called the "Super-jumbo". The Airbus A321 is a twin engine, single aisle plane, based on the existent A320 airliner but lengthened by an additional 6.94 m allowing the seating capacity to be increased to 220 passengers, the Airbus A321 made it's maiden flight on the 11th of March 1993. Information about BMI British Midland Founded in mid 1938 as Air Schools Ltd in the UK, in 1964 to British Midland Airways (BMA), during February 2001 British Midland Airways joined the Star Alliance and re-named it's self bmi british midland following the 30% acquisition of British Midland Airways by Lufthansa.
