G-DBCF BMI British Midland Airbus A319-131Information about the Airbus A319-131 Airbus Industrie is a consortium of European aviation companies formed in 1967 following the British, French and German governments signing a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a new airliner - the Airbus A300. Airbus and Boeing now jointly dominate the World's airliner production, the largest airliner in production for many decades has been the "Jumbo Jet" Boeing 747 series airliners, but now the all new Airbus A380, due to enter service in 2007, is even larger! The Airbus A319 is a twin engine, single aisle commercial airliner based on the existing A320 design but shortened by 3.77m, it can seats from between 200 and 280 passengers, the Airbus A319 made it's first flight on the 25th of Aug 1995. Information about BMI British Midland BMI was created in 1938 as "Air Schools Ltd", in mid 1964 it had it's name changed to "British Midland Airways" (BMA) and in February 2001 British Midland Airways joined the Star Alliance and re-named it's self "bmi british midland" following the 30% acquisition of the company by Lufthansa.
