Airbus Industrie began as a consortium of European aviation firms in 1967 when British, French and German governments signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the first Airbus airliner the Airbus A300. Today Airbus and Boeing dominate the Worlds airliner production, the largest airliner in production for many decades has been the "Jumbo" Boeing 747 series but now the new Airbus A380, due to enter service in 2007 is even bigger and is already referred to as the "Superjumbo".

Bhe Airbus A319 is a twin engine, single aisle aircraft based on the A320 but shortened by 3.77m, it can seat between 200 and 280 passengers, the The Airbus A319 first flew on the 25th of August 1995.

BMI was founded in 1938 as Air Schools Ltd, in 1964 it changed its name to British Midland Airways (BMA), in February 2001 British Midland Airways joined the Star Alliance and re-named it's self bmi british midland following a 30% acquisition of the company by Lufthansa. BMI's fleet now consists of Boeing,  Airbus and Embraer airliners.
