Boeing was incorporated in Washington by William E. Boeing on 15th of July 1916, as “Pacific Aero Products Co.” and was re-named the “Boeing Airplane Company” on the 9th of May 1917.

The Boeing 747 or "Jumbo Jet" first entered service in 1970 as the 747-100 series,  the Boeing 747-400 series entered service in February 1989, a freighter version four years later, it is the only 747 variant still in production although Boeing intends to introduce a new stretched version, the "747-8 Intercontinental".
